A Love Descended from the Stars

You may say that all love is descended from the stars. Because, in a way, parts of us have “descended” from the stars. According to astronomers, our atoms and the atoms of our universe were created from stars that exploded. The remaining matter from the stars created our world–leaving us to be made of the same matter as the stars (Neil deGrasse Tyson).

There’s something magical about the stars. I’ve shared many happy dates with my love just sitting under the stars on a summer night with sleeping bags at his parents’ house- (where it is sufficiently rural)- just sitting on the top of a hill and sharing the most intimate conversations. People have always found the stars to be special. Many stories, tales, and scientific discoveries have been made by simply gazing at the stars. It is a wonder to watch them at night and know that the people from the time of the ancient Greeks watched the same stars that we do today. It is a wonder to know that they are some to many light years away. It is a wonder to know there are stars beyond those stars–just we can’t see them with the unaided eye. And it is a wonder to know that like people, stars have a life-time in which they are created and in which they die (just a much longer life-time than us)!

Do you believe in the possibility that the stars can tell what will happen in our lives? Some people believe that the stars and the arrangement of our planets have a say in who we are, what will happen in our lives, and who is meant to be our love and who isn’t. I am not one who believes in astrology. I believe that horoscopes are like fortune cookies. Yet, when I decided to read about my astrological sign and horoscope for amusement, it offered remarkable similarities to my personality traits. My fortune cookies are also often strangely befitting. Perfect coincidence, complete bull, or something else? I’ll leave you to make your own decision.

If you would like to learn more about stars, Neil deGrasse Tyson, astronomer and astrophysicist, goes into more detail in the very fascinating videos in the series, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. That is where you will find my provided information and more.
